About SWiP
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Society of Women in Physics (SWiP) is to provide an encouraging, fun, and supportive environment for women, femmes, trans and nonbinary people interested in physics at the University of Chicago while spreading awareness of the exciting opportunities physics has to offer.
What do we do?
To this end, we organize informal study nights, conversations with guest speakers, mentorship programs, social gatherings connecting graduate students and undergraduates, and events at which physics undergraduates can meet physics faculty members. We aim to make the physics department a more inclusive place for people of all genders and backgrounds, and fulfill that mission both through one-on-one and group social support as well as through promotion of professional opportunities.
Who is welcome?
We welcome anyone within the UChicago community who is both interested in physics or a related discipline (astrophysics, molecular engineering, etc.) and seeking to learn more about how they can advance their career in such a discipline while connecting with other students who share their interests.
